It is a known fact that God created man with ears. These funny looking organs on the side of our heads have the ability to receive sounds that the brain interprets for our minds which are a storehouse for information. What an amazing function! And what an amazing God to create every one of our bodily functions that work in such perfect harmony as a whole!
Why, then, would Jesus say "He who has an ear, let him hear . . ."? He knew that we all have ears, so what was His concern? What did He know, that we don't, that might interfere with our hearing?
We see all around us evidence of impaired hearing. This is not in reference to actual hearing, as we know it, but to the grasping of reality. It is found not only in the "church" but also in the "world." Although we could point to any one of numerous things as the culprit, there is one in particular that is a major influence in the widespread apostasy in the "church," as well as wickedness in the world.
